Congratulations to these amazing students who were nominated by faculty in the English Language department:
Brekin Alder, nominated by Mrs. Jones. "Brekin is the first student I thought of when I started thinking about who deserves this. He is a great student and has such a fun personality. He asks intelligent questions and does his absolute best. I love seeing how hard he works and that he is a good influence on those around him. Good job, Brekin!"
Camilla Balanzar Lopez, nominated by Mrs. Downs. "Camilla from the beginning has shown hard work and positivity in class. She is kind and helps those around her. She participates and adds good insight to our class. I appreciate her willingness to learn and general good vibes she brings to our classroom. Her worth ethic deserves to be highlighted!"
Travis Beard, nominated by Mrs. Olsen. "Choosing just one junior for the student of the month was TOUGH this year. I have many great students, but Travis definitely stands out. Not only is he always on time and prepared for class, he is one of the most polite students I’ve ever had, which is always a win in my book. His outgoing personality sets him apart as well, and I am grateful for his positivity, which spreads like wildfire throughout our class. It’s great to see other students smile and laugh because of something Travis says or does. I also enjoy the football chats that Travis & I share. Even though we cheer for different teams, he is always kind & shows me grace when my team inevitably loses. I am extremely lucky to have him in my class, & I appreciate the energy & enthusiasm he brings each day. Congratulations Travis! You most certainly deserve this recognition!"
Paisley Lefler, nominated by Ms. Daniels. "Paisley excels in academics, but the reason I nominated her for Student of the Month is because of who she is when no one is looking. One example of her exceptional character is how she reacted to my experiences living through 9/11 as a first-year teacher. I expressed how hard it is for me and many others to talk about 9/11 because it was so traumatizing for the whole nation. Not long after class, I got an email from Paisley. She expressed how sorry she was that I can't think of 9/11 without remembering the horrors we watched on TV for weeks after the attack. She said that something that helps her is to learn about the positive things that happened during the aftermath of the attacks. She told me stories of boats in the harbor rescuing people from the smoke and dust. The best of humanity often surfaces when we have experienced the worst of humanity. That was a good lesson, and I appreciate that Paisley took the time to reach out, because she wanted her English teacher to feel more hope. Kids like Paisley do give me hope that we will be turning the world over to some remarkable human beings one day. Congrats, Paisley! Keep being exactly who you are!"
Grant Mason, nominated by Ms. Frossard. "Grant is a stellar and standout student! He's fun to be around & always has positive energy. He says thank you -- which can be a surprising trait these days :) I might be biased, because I think he also has great taste in movies, music, etc. He writes about things in a clear & engaging way, so it's fun to hear about his ideas & interests. I have really enjoyed getting to teach seniors & I'm glad to have Grant in my class this year. Congrats on Student of the Month -- you deserve it!"
Millie Hollingshead, nominated by Mrs. Gricius. "Millie has been great to have in class this year. In Ethics and Values there are many opportunities to discuss important issues and ideas. Millie is always willing to offer her input, and her contributions to our discussions elevate the whole class's understanding of the content. She is well respected by her classmates. Thanks for being so great Millie, and congratulations on being student of the month!"
Linkin Hamilton, nominated by Mrs. Cottle. "I'm pleased to nominate Linkin for Student of the Month. Linkin is kind, genuinely helpful, and such a thoughtful student. He's a positive presence in our classroom. He is consistently willing to help his classmates and contributes to a welcoming and supportive classroom environment. Linkin has also demonstrated a strong commitment to his won academic growth this year. He has worked hard on his classwork, participates in class discussions, and regularly contributes thoughtful comments that demonstrate his engagement with what we're learning. His willingness to participate and put forth genuine effort has been so great to see. I have known Linkin since Sophomore year and the growth I've seen in him has been significant. He has matured tremendously, both academically and personally and had developed greater confidence, responsibility, and awareness of the kind of student and classmate he wants to be. Linkin is so much fun and a delightful presence in our classroom. I'm so proud of the progress he's made. He's very deserving of this bit of recognition!"
