Springville High’s Varsity Red Devil football team fought hard last Friday evening against the Spanish Fork Dons but ended with the disbelief of losing the game 35-7. The game started off with the game ball being delivered by the KSL helicopter with Rod Zundel and Jerimiah Jensen broadcasting the game, as the “KSL High School Game of the Week. “

Spanish Fork started out hard with a quick 14-0 lead when Don’s quarterback Hayden Nielson connected to wide receivers Andy Perkins and Colin Argyle. When Red Devil Quarterback Steven Bate started to get the offense rolling, running back Mitch Paystrup ran in from 6 yards out to complete a 14-7 score.  On Red Devil’s next drive Steven Bate again drove down the field to the Dons very own one yard line; to their surprise, the Red Devils were stopped all four downs by the strength of the Don’s defense, which certainly was a game changer.

After halftime, the Red Devils were anxious to get out there and play some real football, except not with their starting quarterback, Steve Bate, who suffered a major concussion on the last play of the half.  Not having their starting quarterback made it a little more difficult to work the offense during the second half of the game and the Red Devil defense just couldn’t hold off the Dons which eventually ended in a Don’s victory over the Red Devils.
