BOY’S AND GIRL’S TRACK –
• Congratulations to the Boy’s and Girl’s track teams. They both placed third at the region championships. Allissa Huffaker and Natalie Young led the way for the girl’s as they both won two individual events and were both on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The team of Allissa Huffaker, Natalie Young, Lindsay Bailey and ChaiDee Woods broke the region record in the 4x400 relay by almost two seconds. The boy’s 4x100 relay of Brady Gatewood, Cameron Comer, Jeff Brammer and Spencer Whitaker also won. Spencer Gardner was second in all three of his events, the 800m, 1600m and 3200m. The team qualified twenty-three athletes for next week’s state championships.

COUNSELING CENTER NEWS –
• Any student who had a 3.700 GPA through the third term of this school year is invited to come to the Counseling Office to pick up a certificate of congratulations for academic achievement. Remember that this certificate is for this year only, not for accumulative GPA.

STUDENT COUNCIL APPOINTED OFFICE POSITIONS -
• We are adding a new appointed office position this year to student council. The position is Administrative Representative. Because we are adding a new position we will be extending the deadline for all appointed positions to get applications turned in. The following are the Appointed Positions that you can apply for:
1. Historian
2. Photographer
3. Cinematographer
4. Diversity Specialist
5. Administrative Representative
• Applications for all positions will be due Monday, May 19th by 3:00. Applications can be picked up in the front office and need to be turned in to Ms. Meacham. If you have any questions about any of the positions and their responsibilities please see Ms. Meacham.

GIRL’S BASKETBALL –Attention ALL GIRLS!!!!
• Anyone who wants to play basketball this summer, there is a MANDATORY meeting on Monday MAY 12th at 3:30 in the main gym at Springville High School. This includes EVERYONE!!!! Even if you did not make the team this last year you can still play! If you absolutely CANNOT make it on Monday or have any questions please contact Coach Warner at nancy.warner@nebo.edu or 801-489-2870.

COUNSELING CENTER NEWS -
• During its 2008 session, the Utah Legislature enacted, and Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. signed into law, S.B. 180, which created the "Regents' Scholarship."
Specifically, S.B. 180 establishes a base scholarship of up to $1,000 for any student who completes the prescribed core course of study with a 3.0 or better GPA. It also establishes an "Exemplary Academic Achievement Scholarship" that is worth 75% of tuition for two years of college if a student completes the core course of study with a 3.5 GPA and a 26 or higher ACT score.
• To qualify for this scholarship must have had 4 Years of English; 4 years of Math; 3.5 Social Studies; 3 years of Science; 2 years of the same foreign language; etc. If you are a senior and feel you meet these requirements, please come to the Counseling Office and pick up an application. Applications must be submitted no later than May 30, 2008.

DETENTION THIS COMING SATURDAY –
• The next (4 hour) Saturday detention offered will be May 10th in room E-3 from 7:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. You must be on time.

LAST CHANCE DANCE –
• The Last Chance Dance will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 8:00 P.M. at the Arts Park. So, girl’s, this is your last chance to ask that special someone to a school dance.
• Only $15.00 at the door for those last chance memories of Springville High School.

Dear Seniors and Parents,

This is an exciting time of year for you and your families. I am honored to write you this very important letter regarding graduation. I can’t believe graduation day is almost here. It has been a privilege to serve as your principal at Springville High School. I am very proud of all of you! This letter contains very important information.

Please read it carefully, and do not discard for further reference.

Thursday, May 8 Spring Showcase - All parents and students are invited to attend the annual SHS spring showcase. It will begin at 6:00 pm. Service awards will be given during the program as well.

Friday, May 9 Graduation Obligations finalized - All outside credit must be completed and turned in to counselors. All fees and fines must be paid. For your convenience we accept Visa or Mastercard. If you do not have all obligations met by this date, you may still be able to graduate; however, since we have to send our graduate list to the publisher, your name will not appear in either the graduation program or the Springville Herald.

Tuesday, May 13 Senior Class Meeting at 9:00 am in the auditorium - This meeting is mandatory for all seniors if you plan to participate in graduation ceremonies. If you are unable to attend, a parent or guardian must attend for you. If there are extenuating circumstances, please contact the school prior to May 13 to make arrangements to get the information. All seniors will be excused from class to attend the meeting at 9:00 am

Friday, May 16 Detentions must be made up - All detentions must be made up by Friday May 16, 2008 at 4:00 pm. If detentions are not made up at this point, the student will forfeit the opportunity to participate in graduation ceremonies. The student does not forfeit the opportunity to graduate.

Tuesday, May 20 through Thursday, May 22 - Cap and Gown pick up / Check out - To pick up your cap and gown, and or attend the yearbook party, you must check out with administration*** . You must have your GREEN senior checkout card stamped and initialed by Mr.Thorne or Mr. Ashton. They will be available to assist you in front of the auditorium before school, at lunch, and after school. To receive your cap and gown and ticket to the yearbook party, all detentions and fines must be cleared.

*Seniors can plan to pick up cap & gown as well as all other graduation items purchased through Herff Jones. These items will be distributed from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. out of the "old" copy center across from the finance office. Seniors must have their GREEN check out card stamped and signed before coming to the door to pick up items.

Thursday, May 22 GRADUATION SEATING CHART POSTED AT COUNSELING
Check to see where you will be sitting at graduation. Remember your row and seat number. You will be expected to sit there at graduation practice.

Friday, May 23 Senior Awards Assembly / LAST DAY OF CLASSES FOR SENIORS/Yearbook Party!
The senior awards assembly will begin at 9:00am. Parents and students are invited to attend. This is a best dress day and formal event. Scholarships and many other awards will be presented at this assembly. Please join us for this event.

The annual yearbook party and dance is a great night to enjoy one last time to sign yearbooks, dance, and visit with friends before graduation. Students that have paid all fines fees and have cleared all detentions may attend. Time and location are TBA.

Tuesday, May 27 GRADUATION PRACTICE 11:00AM @ UVSC MCKAY EVENTS CENTER IN OREM
Students will be responsible to transport themselves to UVSC for practice. If you do not have transportation, see
Mr. Liddiard in counseling before 10:30am. Please be in your seat at 10:45am. DO NOT BE LATE. This practice is mandatory. Please check your seat and row number (posted in Counseling at SHS) prior to your arrival.

Wednesday, May 28 GRADUATION CEREMONIES @ UVSC, OREM MCKAY EVENTS CENTER 2:00PM SCHOOL WILL BE EXCUSED AT 11:00AM
Seniors must be lined up at 1:00pm exactly as you practiced the day before. DO NOT BE LATE! Remember to bring cap, gown, seat assignment, etc… with you. Appropriate behavior is expected while waiting in line. Any violation will result in the removal from the graduation ceremonies.

Dress for graduation is formal. Girls are expected to wear dresses and appropriate shoes. Boys wear slacks, white shirt, tie, and appropriate shoes. No shorts are allowed. Boys must also be clean shaven. We also ask families to come appropriately dressed for the occasion and that you avoid bringing food or drink. Graduation is a dignified event. No air horns or noise makers are allowed. Our seniors have worked very hard for this day to be great. Please be respectful to all graduates and their families. During the program, you are expected to be quiet and respectful. After the
ceremony, DO NOT throw caps or any objects as they may cause injury.Any senior that is disruptive may be removed from graduation. Any senior that is under the influence of alcohol or other substances will be removed from graduation immediately.

**Honors and high honors will be announced at graduation. You are invited to wear the appropriate honor cords if you would like. After obtaining your GREEN check out slip you may get your cords in the counseling center from 2:30 to 4:00 on May 20 through the 22nd after you have picked up your cap and gown. Pay $5 to the finance office to purchase the cord, or it may be borrowed, but must be returned before a diploma can be picked up.

Please take family pictures outside the arena. Parents will not be allowed on the floor to take pictures. A graduation video will be available for purchase through the SHS finance office after June 30, 2008.

Seating for parents and family is provided in chair seats above the main floor. For elevator access, please enter through the west ground level entrance. Parking is available on the northwest side of the building. For special seating arrangements, please contact UVSC security as you arrive.

SENIOR ALL NIGHT PARTY AT SHS! 10:00pm – 5:00am
