When the lights are dimmed and hush descends upon an audience of more than 54,000 at the nation’s largest annual student convention this Oct. 22 through October 25, 2008, in Conseco Fieldhouse, Christopher Cook will share the spotlight in a musical performance that will inspire the crowd and provide memories to last a lifetime.  Christopher Cook of the Springville FFA Chapter has been selected to sing Tenor in the National FFA chorus. The student submitted an audition tape and was one of 94 young people selected nationwide to be a member of the prestigious group. The choir will perform several times at the 81st National FFA Convention, adding excitement and motivation to the sessions through their music. National FFA Chorus members are nominated by their state associations and were chosen from a pool of more than 150 applications. The young musicians arrive in Indianapolis three days before the convention begins to rehearse. The National FFA Chorus is directed by Patti LaJoye of Hastings, Michigan. The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is a national youth organization of 500,823 student members – all preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture – as part of 7,358 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The National FFA Organization changed to its present name in 1988, in recognition of the growth and diversity of agriculture and agricultural education. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Mr. Larson grew up with only one sister in Iowa, the Hawkeye or “Tall Corn” state.  He began teaching at Spanish Fork Elementary school and liked it so much that he stayed there for 20-count it-20 years!  He was inspired to begin teaching because of an awesome experience working with learning-disabled pre-school children early in life.  After his stay in Spanish Fork, he decided to shake things up a little bit and tried high school for a change.  He taught at Payson High for nine years before joining our own Springville family (Go Red Devils!) as a new teacher in 2008.  He has four grown children and loves them lots! Mr. Larson loves what he does and he says there’s nowhere else he’d rather be!  We welcome him to Springville High.

The Devils snatch Bigler from the Lions

If you are looking for an exciting and enthusiastic teacher who enlightens you with skills that will last for your whole life, then Mrs. Bigler is the teacher for you. Mrs. Bigler came from Payson High School where she taught accounting, computer technology, and word processing. Here she teaches word processing, financial literature, English, honors English, and says she is very excited to be here. Outside of teaching she enjoys cooking, reading, and gardening.  She would describe herself as energetic while her students would describe her as enthusiastic. One thing she noticed right away upon her arrival at Springville High School was the dress and manors of students here at this school, nothing that she was very mpressed.Mrs.

Bigler has three sons, two grandsons, and a Yellow lab. So if you are one of the lucky ones who happens to have Mrs. Bigler as one of your teachers then make sure you have room to remember what she teaches.

Everyone came in their jammies, and as an added bonus, they didn’t even think about getting ready for their day! Andy Priest, (as you all know, our wonderful Student Body President!) gave us all a few words of advice: “It’s a kick-off for SENIORS,” he emphasized “Not cool for Juniors or Sophomores to sneak in!” Though we love all of our younger classmates, we had a few attempt to follow their older friends through the gates. Let’s just say, it could’ve been very hazardous to their health. All of our class officers provided a gorgeous array of food including French toast, bacon, hash browns, and freshly squeezed (Sean and Andy personally) orange juice. Everyone got their ticket at the gate for three dollars, but those who were early birds got it for a dollar cheaper (for all of us frugal people).  For all those who came, they know, it sure was a chance of a lifetime!
Hey all you Seniors! For everyone who attended, we had some serious fun at our ongoing tradition of Senior Sunrise! We’ve been keeping this glorious tradition “for a long time” Senior Class President, Sean Allsop, says. Our thrilling day-break activity was held Friday at 6:00 am sharp at the Arts Park, located just behind the school.

Springville High School’s Girls Tennis Team was prepared for a winning home game against the Provo Bulldogs. Springville won each match against Provo played on a very hot Wednesday afternoon, August 27. The heat was so intense that one of Provo’s teammates forfeited her match against her Springville opponent due to heat exhaustion. Winning this match has given the Lady Red Devil’s much confidence in facing future opponents.    Please come and support the Girls Tennis team at their next home match on September 10th  vs. Mountain View.
