FFA in Review
By Nathan Ahlborn, FFA Reporter
Starting the second week of September, our CDE (career development event) teams have been practicing at least twice a week for our Snow College practice meet on October 14. This was the first meet of the year; and, for most of those competing, it was their first competition. Although we didn’t place, it was good practice and we are now prepared for the upcoming Tooele meet.
Monday, October 13, was Springville High’s annual “Make a Wish” carnival. The FFA had a booth with roping and living necklaces. It was an awesome opportunity to work with children and raise money for an amazing cause. We hope those that participated had fun because we sure did!
Our President, Chris Cook, had the opportunity to sing in the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. The convention started on October 22 and went through to the 25th. The Chapter sponsored Chris to go to Indiana and sing amongst FFA’s finest
One of our major upcoming events is our annual Sub-for-Santa community service. There are many needy families in Springville and they need your help. The FFA is gathering new toys, books, and canned food; we will start taking donations in December. We will announce a specific date on school announcements. Anyone can donate -- just bring your new toys or food to the school and the FFA will take care of the rest. Donations can be taken to the elementary schools, junior highs, and high school. Please contact Mrs. Brinkerhoff, at Springville High, 489-2870, if you would like to contribute.
Students will also be competing in speaking events this week as well as traveling to the BLM mustang facility. There will be a mandatory meeting for SAE animals today; you must have a parent present if you are expecting to get an animal.

Girls Volleyball Places 3rd in State
By Sam Snow and Taylor Card, SHS Staff Writers
The Girls’ Springville Volleyball team had a great season that ended with them placing third in the state tournament. They had a great regular season and entered the tournament having only lost two games in the regular season. In the first two games of the State Tournament the Lady Devils beat two tough teams -- Mountain Crest and Cottonwood. In the third game of the playoffs, they didn’t have as much luck.
They met Snow Canyon for the second time this year. In the first outing the Lady Red Devils swept Snow Canyon three games to zero. The Lady Devils played well but couldn’t put together a complete game. They were leading the game two games to one and ended up losing the last two games. The Red Devils didn’t quit though. They played a tough game against Murray and won to place 3rd at State. Snow Canyon ended up winning the State Tournament. Kristin Clark and Lindsay Barker of Springville made the 4A all tournament team.
Congratulations Lady Red Devils on a great season!

Thoroughly Modern Millie!
By Lauren Widtfeldt and Haley Brooksby, SHS Staff Writers
Meet Tatem Credille, this year she stars as “Millie” in Springville High School’s production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.
This is Tatem’s first time as the lead in a school musical and she’s found it to be challenging, but fun.
“The cast is great and they’re all perfect for their parts,” said Tatem.
She loves the character she portrays because Millie is such a great role model and is a real advocate to girls (and boys) who want to go after their dreams.
This is a great play that is appropriate for all audiences and is guaranteed to keep you laughing.
The play runs November 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 24, the play begins at 7:00 pm and is held in Springville High School’s auditorium.
Tickets are $30 for a family, $6 for seniors and students (SHS and SJHS students only), $8 for adults, and $4 for children 6 and under.
