Hello Assembly held last Friday at SHS

This year the Hello Assembly, which welcomes all students to the lovely SHS, was held on Friday the 22nd. It consisted of an intense musical number by the band, marching sharply down the aisles, as the whole auditorium stood in silence.
At the conclusion of the number, the new student council introduced themselves, with creative and quite original videos. Because the sophomores have yet to elect their student council, we were only lucky enough to have seen the creations of the senior and junior videos so far. We can only imagine the works the sophomores will create for our viewing pleasure.
Aside from student council, we were also introduced to the talented drill team by a first time performance that was just absolutely ravishing. For real, this assembly was legit.

Devils let Bulldogs stay close in game
By Dan Thomas

The Springville Red Devil Girls soccer team seemed to be a little too comfortable in the game against Provo on Thursday as they watched a quick 2- 0 lead slip away. In what looked like another incredible offensive performance for the devils, quickly turned into a struggle to score against the upset- minded Provo Bulldogs.
Springville had very many chances to score as they were knocking on the door for most of the game and putting a lot of pressure on the Bulldog defense. There must have been a giant plate of invisible glass blocking the goal as the Devils just could not capitalize on their many scoring opportunities, pouring in shots from every angle, only to be disappointed.
Finally in the 74th minute, Kaisa Goodman took a shot/ assist as her attempt to score was met by Kim Stratford’s foot for the deciding point of the game. The Victory was very important as Springville warms up in Region play and extends their overall record to 4-1, next up: vs. Tooele Tuesday, August 22nd.

In the boy’s race senior Gary Hatch was second to Provo’s Chase Nelson, and ran the fastest time (15:59) ever by a Springville runner on this course. Taking third was junior Zach Johnson followed closely by junior Andy Shields. Sophomore Evan Millsap-Brown was eighth as all four runners were able to break seventeen minutes for the three mile race.
The girl’s race was almost a clean sweep for the five scoring runners, as junior Libby Jensen placed first followed by freshman Haley Knapp in second and senior Meggie Savage third. Rounding out the scoring was senior Kim Lifferth sixth and freshman Allyssa Payne seventh.
